Jay Norris came to Horizon Tank Lines in October of 1997 as a part time driver. Most trucking companies have driver "slots" they need to fill on an occasional basis, and Horizon is no different. Jay read an ad running in the local paper, came in and filled out our application, underwent safety training, and began handling multiple driving jobs.

Jay has been driving for just over 26 years. He has served with companies such as Southstate Transport in Albany, GA, George Transfer, Parkton, MD, and as an independent Owner - Operator from 1977 to 1996.. He has over 20 years of experience with tanks, and has brought a dependable level of assistance to HTL. When a driver runs out of hours, or has to call in due to the flu, Jay takes over and handles the delivery. In an average day, Jay might be found loading tanks for incoming drivers, making local deliveries, or helping our mechanic, Ty Berry. No job is too large or too small for him. It's one of the characteristics that makes Jay easy to work with. His terminal Manager has commented that Jay often works rings around some of the younger drivers.

Living in Wilmington, NC, Jay and his wife Millie, have been married for 46 years. Millie retired from Harris Teeter Grocery Stores after 22 years. They have a daughter, Jaunita Richardson who is with the New Hanover County Department of Health.

Jay said the toughest decision he ever faced was selling his rig after being an Owner - Operator for 23 years. Once your own boss, it's hard to turn loose of the independence, but we are certainly glad that Jay did...and we're proud to have Jay represent Horizon Tank Lines! We look forward to a long and rewarding relationship.
