Ty Stamm
Ty came aboard Horizon Tank Lines in November of 1994, after having spent a year with East Coast Transport. If you were to get to know Ty, you'd wonder how he came to choose driving over an earlier passion...culinary art. Well, the story goes this way...
Ty hails from the New England area, where he attended school through his senior year in High School. Classes in history, math and science were not the only courses in which he took an interest. After school, Ty would go to a local restaurant where he began honing his skills as a cook and chef. Graduating from High School, he furthered his culinary studies by attending college at Johnson and Wales Culinary Institute in Providence, Rhode Island. Youth being what it is, after a year Ty returned to Massachusetts be closer to a young lady with whom he had attended High School, Heather Bailey.
Although Ty progressed into restaurant management, there was yet another dream he found he had to explore - that of trucking. With the help of a friend in the business, he became familiar with the basics, then attended the New England Tractor-Trailer Training School in order to obtain his CDL. Soon thereafter, he and Heather were married. Now, needing to support his wife, Ty signed on with Burlington Motor Carriers driving cross-country for more than two years.
Tiring of the long absences from Heather, and deciding the southern states were to their liking, they moved to Wilmington, NC where Ty began driving for East Coast Transport. He had been with them only a year when an opportunity presented itself with Horizon Tank Lines, and TY sprang to the occasion. From 1994 until February of 1998, he ran Horizon's system. During these years, Ty earned The Driver of the Month several times, and was runner-up for Driver of the Year in 1996.
In February of 1998, Horizon Tank Lines had an opening for a dispatcher/terminal manager. Simultaneously, Ty and Heather became the proud parents of their first child; a son named Dylan Dennis. Seeing the opening within Horizon as an opportunity, Ty asked to try on that hat and see how it fit. This would keep him closer to home, and allow for more family time.
Ty admits that tackling the dispatch - terminal manager position is a challenge. He has gotten a firm hold on the intricacies of the job, and added his personal touches along the way. He has found managing the balance between trucks, drivers and customers, an awesome task, but one he relishes. He puts all his energies into each day, and the customers respond. Drivers have often remarked to us that Ty is doing one heck of a job! A Company is fortunate when they have people who are highly regarded by both personnel AND customers. Fortune has definitely smiled on Horizon Tank Lines, Inc.!
